Summer is nearly upon us, and we couldn't be more excited. We're working hard organising a fun-packed timetable, and Ingenium 2016 looks to be the best yet. We can't wait to return to beautiful Winchester and meet you all!

Ingenium 2016 promises to be bigger, better and even more musical than the last - and more international, with students from more than 40 countries coming together for the summer of a lifetime.

There are places left on all our programmes, including Orchestral, Vocal, Piano and Saxophone three-week courses and our new Conducting Week. Applications remain open until the course begins, but admission is on a first-come, first-served basis until there are no places left so don't leave it too late.

Felix Mendelssohn - Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream

Mendelssohn's answer to William Shakespeare's fantasy explodes with colour, and is packed with the playful and surreal imagery that this text is famous for. Written when the composer was only 17 years old it was hailed as a prodigious work for such a young artist. The music is full of symbolic compositional techniques that suggest the story of the play, with themes and leitmotifs representing characters and plot twists. Written originally as a separate concert overture not intended to be heard alongside the play, Mendelssohn returned to the material when composing incidental music for a performance 16 years later.
