A cappella hits, scavenger hunting and the beginning of the final race - Week 3 Welcome Day

Hello Week 3!
This afternoon's a cappella activity
Time has shot on by, and the final week of Ingenium 2019 has arrived. As in the previous weeks of the course, today began with our pastoral team at Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, as well as London St. Pancras International, ensuring our departing students were safely on their way. We hope to see all of you next year!
It was clear that our remaining students were sad to see some of their friends leave after one, two or even three incredible weeks in Winchester, but equally the excitement of new arrivals was on everyone’s minds. All our newbies were greeted with an Ingenium smile and selfie, and of course a big welcome into the family.

Back in Winchester, the students had the option of free time to practise or exploring the town with their friends. Many chose the latter, making the most of the sunny weather and relaxed atmosphere of the city centre over a coffee and shopping. Those who stayed brushed up on their technique and planned for the week ahead, knowing it would be their last at this year’s Ingenium Academy.
With new arrivals coming in at various points in the afternoon, our team set the scene for this afternoon's activity: Pitch Perfect. Students were put into groups, and in those groups the aim was to create the best rendition of a popular song, but only using voices. This was quite the challenge to start the week, but the musicians were already tapping into their creativity and with this came some true gems. From Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ to Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, the final performances had it all, and with extra choreography from some, we in the audience were on our feet in applause at everyone’s efforts.

We then headed to the boarding houses to show our new arrivals to their rooms and let them settle in with their Ingenium friends and a good evening meal. One glance into the dining room and it was clear today’s intake were already feeling at home with our friendly bunch.
Tonight’s evening activity was a classic Scavenger Hunt, filled with quirky challenges and of course, lots of fun. There was a picture round, object round and pastoral staff round, with tasks including finding written musical clefs dotted in all corners of the building and recreating the iconic lit faces picture from Bohemian Rhapsody. Some groups definitely did better than others, but what showed most was the involvement and including of everyone, particularly those who arrived today.

Beds awaited the students after a long day for many, and an important week of music to come. We are bursting with excitement for the start of the final race to the finish line, and hope you are too!
