Thursday is performance platform! Day 4 of Ingenium Week 1, 2018 brought some fascinating performances from our students and some electrifying violin lessons and jazz sessions.

 

 

Today the conductors had a particularly exciting day. They got the chance to each step onto the podium, in front of our orchestra and conduct Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture that they have been studying this week. It was an amazing opportunity for them to conduct a live orchestra and get feedback on their conducting from their colleagues as well as their teacher, Tim.

 

 

In the morning, our violinists had a special treat and joined Steve Bingham for a taster session on the electric violin. For musicianship we had various different exciting sessions for our students. We were happy to welcome Chris Pyne, jazz saxophonist who introduced our wind, brass and saxophones to a few jazz standards and focused the session on playing by ear, improvisation and jazz styles. Steve Bingham also took one of the musicianship sessions and perfomed some of his amazing arangements using his electric violin and an array of loop pedals and electronic effects. The students then had an amazing time experimenting with the loop pedals and creating their own melodies and harmonies using electronics.

 

 

The second half of the afternoon brought us all together for the rehearsal of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia which is going to be the grand finale of our concert tomorrow. Everyone will perform in this piece together and we're excited that 94 students from over 50  different countries are coming together to make music with each other, playing and singing side by side.

 

 

Thursday evening is always a highlight of the Ingenium week, due to our internal performance platform. This gives the students the opportunity to share what they have been working on individually, and also to showcase any collaborations or compositions that they have put together during their time here. We enjoyed some stunning performances ranging from the Hummel trumpet concerto and Ibert flute concerto to improvised Jazz duets and world premieres of own compositions from our students.

It was really wonderful to hear all these talented young musicians and the support and excitement coming from their colleagues was thrilling.

Abigail C: for dilingently learning all her parts and spending all of  the breaks practicing.

Clara C: for breaking new ground and finding new ways of practicing, improving her dexterity and making amazing progress in the past 2 weeks.

 

Saxophone

Pierre-Jean: for his amazing progress and tone improvement in his individual lesson and for learning a new piece very quickly and thoroughly.
