Here we are: the last day of Ingenium 2019!

 

Whole School Finale

 

After four incredible weeks of sunshine, fun and games and, of course, music, we are at our final stop on this year’s magical musical tour.
 
Final rehearsals in our beautiful concert hall kicked off the day, with each group having the chance to test out the acoustic and spacing, especially useful with choreography being an important factor in enhancing the overall performances.

Once we were all inspired and full of energy from a good lunch and final team talk, it was time for Concert 1. The hive of excitable chatter was at a high point as friends and family were welcomed through the doors and to their seats and the minutes ticked down to the first notes sounding. When they did we were all instantly engrossed and ready to give support and rapturous applause to each of our performers. This afternoon treated us to the likes of spirited Haydn, captivating Chopin and Karl Jenkins that left the room in total awe.

With the cheers and praise coming to a natural hush at the end of the concert, it was then to nearby MUSA for afternoon tea and chamber music from our students. This brief interlude allowed old friends to catch up over tea and scones and conversation to flourish in every corner of the room, as well as our students to display the skills they have learned in a different way.

Short and sweet this interlude was though, as now brought on Concert 2. Our saxophones opened this with a dynamic performance of Budgen’s Pantheon, followed by a world premiere of Wilkinson’s Three Angels, a fascinating endeavor into the world of multiphonics. There were more piano highlights in works by Grieg and Chaminade; our choir with songs of hope and unity and to finish off an arrangement of movements from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, today performed on two pianos and percussion.

We then came together for dinner, enjoying some social time and reenergising ourselves for the last of today’s musical events. With canapés and beverages for our audience to indulge in, we all gathered for some more music courtesy of our students, accompanied by a slideshow of highlights from the last four weeks. There were smiles all round as students took the courage to display more of their musical abilities and demonstrate their progressions over the last few weeks.

It was then on to Concert 3, rounding off the day, week and month in true Ingenium style. This time we had roaring Stevie Wonder from our saxophones, tremendously passionate piano solos, meticulous Haydn and Prokofiev from our orchestra, as well as more from our choir, inspiring us all yet again. However, it wouldn’t be a true Ingenium concert without a Whole School Finale. Everyone was eager to collaborate in this final celebration of the month’s fantastic music making, and what better way than our own arrangement of Schwarz’s Wicked! It was a joy to see the Ingenium experience cultivate in five minutes of pure quality and jubilation. Well done all – you aced it and we couldn’t be more proud.

The emotions were running high as we then headed back to the Music School for one final gathering as an Ingenium family, giving the students time to say their goodbyes and reflect on their life changing experiences, before heading home in the morning.

 

There we have it! We have reached the end of the Ingenium Academy 2019! We have had an absolute blast and enjoyed so many new and wonderful experiences. With sights already on next year’s course, stay tuned for more updates and adventures to come as our mission to change lives through music continues.

Programmes range from 1 week to 4 weeks long. Students can attend one immersive programme, or broaden their experience by combining programmes to suit their interests.
